I admire the people that never change
That aren’t influenced by anyone
That love so hard and expect nothing back
Like a fog around my mind
a glaze about my eyes
I walk along
as though nothing were the matter
and I smile
It means nothing to anyone the way that I feel
We are all but people concerned with ourselves
Taking, taking
Walking in and out of each others lives
leaving stains and loud voices that over time become forgotten
I keep to myself these thoughts
the longing to love and be loved
I’ve fought against these thoughts
Hardened my heart and closed my eyes
And yet..
Wouldn’t it be lovely..
What of it all.
Think you’ll find it
Seeing so blindly.
You’re all beat up now
Just look at you.
I listened as the cars went by
Felt the breeze from the window in my room
As I lay in bed
Thinking to myself.
Thinking to myself..
The multitudes they stare and shout
Nobody knows
They don’t know what they want
Tunnel visioned, angry
Time draws near
and what have you got
An empty hand
I look over
Emptiness in the streets
The multitudes…
It’s dark outside
I take a walk
Feeling the breeze on my face
The sidewalk under my feet..
Will fade, will fade
This skin will age
And hair will gray
Will fall, will fall..
Eyes will dim and carry weight
Of the years you’ve experienced
Of the days you cannot live again
This flesh will fail us
Will change in shape
But will our souls do the same
Careful now and seek
Are you beautiful inside
That will linger on
Long after we have died
Can we see it through your eyes
In your speech and as you walk
Are you beautiful inside
Are you.
Lightly, gently
The rain hits the pavement
The trees stretch their arms and gather
The cars go by one after another
The sky is darkened
Moody and cross
I wait for time to pass
I wait, kicking up my shoe
And I watch the people scurry home
The motel kids running in the street
The lady smokes a cigarette and watches, a puff and then another
I feel the chill air on my face
And I wait
Wait for time to pass..
Remember our childhood innocence
And by now we really should know better
Where was your first kiss
What did you think love was
Do you still feel the same, feel the same as you did back then when you felt it in your gut
Remember what it felt like before anyone had the chance to break your heart
That fluttery feeling, the feeling of forever
And our thoughts were so pure
What is it that we think about now
Are our thoughts yet pure
Do we still have hope that it’s real
Do we search, or should we hide
I fear I’ve been enveloped in the wrong state of mind
Shaken by the reality of it all
Shh, slow down and rest awhile
You mighty beast
I see you there pretending you don’t care
I’ve caught you with your head in the sky
Your feet in the sea
I saw it in your eyes so intensely
You quickly looked away
You aren’t meant to be alone forever
But just wait, do you have the time to sit awhile
How much more can you stand
You beastly thing
Your heart so hard
But I see it in your eyes so intensely
You turn away
You have forgotten how beautiful you are..
